But have you jumped into the Instagram world? This social media platform has quickly taken off in popularity. According to a Pew Research Center survey, Instagram not only increased its overall user figure by nine percentage points during a 12-month period from 2013 to 2014, it saw significant growth in almost every demographic group.

Try adding Instagram to your marketing mix to boost your personal brand. Not so sure what to post on Instagram? Here are some tips to get you started.

Products: Whether it’s a styling product you love and sell, or a new hairstyling tool, take a photo of it and post it on Instagram. You don’t want too many of your posts to be about products, but when something really special comes along, definitely share it.

Before & after shots: When you have a client making an exciting color or style change, as long as they give you permission, be sure to take before and after photos. This gives you an opportunity to show off your exceptional skills and talents.

Thank yous: If you have clients who you know are following you on Instagram, take a moment at the end of the day to thank them for coming in, or thank them for a referral. It adds a personal touch to what could be considered a platform that isn’t very personal. You can also thank vendors for working with you, which will highlight that vendor as well.

When your clients become your extended family you know you’re doing your job right 💭

Upcoming promotions: Take a photo of your advertising for a new promotion and share it on Instagram. Clients can share your promotional post and could help you get more clientele.

Keep it relevant: If there is a holiday coming up, make your posts relevant to that. One example would be offering a Mother’s Day special or a customer appreciation promotion around Thanksgiving. Many people go to their stylist to get their hair done for holiday parties. This is another way to use before and after photos of gorgeous updos on Instagram.

Be human: All of your posts don’t have to be completely related to showing off your skills or promotions. If the salon you work at hosts an event, snap some pics and share them on Instagram. Examples of these would be a work party, someone giving a course in the salon, backstage at a hair show, etc.

Your clients love and trust you. 💙
