In the Spotlight-Veronika Sudderth

At Stylie, we have the opportunity of meeting so many talented professionals in the beauty industry. We can’t just keep all this talent to ourselves, so we want to share it with all of you! Below is our way of shining the spotlight on a few of these amazing individuals.

Your Beauty Industry History

We want to know why you love what you do.

What inspired you to choose this career?
I went into the beauty industry in my mid 20’s after years of my family & friends telling me to do it.  They felt I had a natural talent with hair & makeup.  I stopped going to college and went to one of the best beauty schools called Paul Mitchell in San Jose.  Two years later, I’m renting my own station in a salon and on my way to doing amazing things.
What’s the best part of your job?
I feel very blessed to be able to make men and women look & feel great! I feel like I’m working on a fun hobby not a job.

What are your specialties and favorite services?
I provide all men & women hair services, along with hair extensions, eyelash extensions, and makeup.  I love everything that I do so I can’t pick my favorite but I love taking before and after pictures and watching transformations!
Do you have any best practices or tips you’d like to share with our community?
I started out going to a great school that introduced me to all parts of the beauty industry like guest artists, platform artists, celebrity stylists and all beauty professionals. I learned continuing your education is very important so I still attend classes along with going to hair shows all the time.  Every other month I am learning something new and I feel that’s what makes me different than a lot of stylists and that is what stands out to old and new clientele.

What are some of your all-time favorite client pieces you’ve done thus far?
I would say prom & wedding clients are always my favorite transformations.  I also competed in a television show called “Battle of the Salons”.  My team lost but it was a great experience.

Your #inspo

What makes you tick?

What is some of the best advice you’ve been given during your career? Consistency, staying humble, and always educate yourself. These three things will make you successful.

Who in the industry inspires you? Why? Platform artists inspire me. They are not only talented at their career but they share the knowledge with cosmetologists & barbers like myself.

If you had any advice for a new hairstylist, what would it be? Start from the bottom and work your way up. There are no short cuts.  After school, I assisted in a salon before I became a renter, and the entire time I continued to take color, makeup, and men’s cutting classes.
